Week 10: Spreads

I still find the life journey spread as the most useful spread to me. For this assignment, I read my mother on two different days using two different spreads. One day I read her with the life journey spread. She felt like she could relate to all of the cards that she was given. She was especially shocked to see that the death card was in the place of her "where you are now" card. She is currently starting a new diet and leaving behind her past habits of eating unhealthy. She said this is definitely what the reading must be about.
The second spread I used to read my mom was the gift spread. This spread has you pull out two cards. The first card is what you have to give the world. The second card represents what you are open to receive. She couldn't quite decide what this reading was referring to for the card about what she had to give. However, she said the card she got for what she was open to receive was pretty accurate.
In summary, she felt like she more related to the first reading. She could understand what all three cards in that reading were telling her. In the second reading, she could get a clear answer from one card, but struggled to connect the other to her current situation. This could just mean that she might have to reflect on this more and really figure out what that card was telling her she could give to the world.

Week 9: Read for Yourself

The spread that I definitely feel is the most useful to me, is the life journey spread. This spread involves three cards that represent where i've been, where I am now, and where I am going. I have done this reading for myself five different times on myself. Overall, I would say it is easy for me to understand what this spread is telling me and the cards I have gotten have felt pretty accurate to my current state. In one of these readings, I got the page of cups as where I am now. I felt like this was extremely accurate and really resonated with how I currently feel.

Week 8: Symbols

Spend some time on the internet researching your particular card (either the one you picked originally or the one you picked last week). What symbols are normally associated with this archetype? What do the symbols represent? If you had to pick a card to represent you right now, would you use this one or another one? Why? What is different about the other one if you have a preference for a card other than the one you originally picked? Does that preference reveal anything you didn’t already know about yourself?

One normal symbol that is usually associated with the death card is the skeleton. This skeleton obviously represents mortality, BUT it can also represent change and transition.sun in the background. This sun in the background of this tarot card normally represents life and growth. It also ties in to the skeleton symbol and is a reminder that with an end, there is usually a new beginning. The white horse that the skeleton knight is riding represents the power of instinct and knowing when is the right time to move on.
If I had to chose a card that represented me right now I would definitely pick this one. This is because I myself definitely feel like I am in a transitional state. I had to move on from a situation in my life and this ended up being a good thing for me. I also feel like leaving the situation I did brought me to a brand new opportunity that I never would've found if I hadn't left. I think I knew this about myself and this is why I could relate to this card so much.

Week 6: Reevaluate your card choice

Knowing what I know now about the major arcana cards, I don't think I would change my selection of the death card. I still think the message behind the card is extremely powerful and something I really connect to. The idea of moving on and letting go of things that just need to end is very important. I also really like the symbols of this card. I now know that the horse represents the power of instinct and I think that this is such a strong message in this card.

Week 5: Questions for Reflection from Sections 15-21

Questions for Reflection for the Devil
1. To what do you feel bound or enslaved, and what will free you?
- I feel bound or enslaved to my job and the amount of hours I have to work. Right now, I have so much school work to do all of the time that it is really a burden to have to work for 5-7 hours four times a week. What will obviously free me from this is when this semester of school ends and I won't be stressed about working all of the time.
2. What negative trait that you possess has only recently come to your awareness?
- One negative trait that I have recently noticed that I possess is extreme procrastination. In high school I didn't have as much work to do as I do now so I didn't really procrastinate a lot. But now, I have so much work to do, but I just can't start it all on time. I end up working on assignments the day that they are do.
3. What fears get in the way of living your life, and how can you move through them?
- Some fears that keep me from living my life are the fear of rejection and the fear of not being liked. Because i'm afraid that no one wants me to talk to them or annoy them, I never end up talking to new people unless they talk to me first. To move through this, I can try to be more outgoing and force myself to meet new people, even if they might not like me.
4. Who or what brings out the worst in you, and how do you allow it?
- I would say my step father brings out the worst in me. I always let little things he says get under my skin until I break and end up reciprocating.
5. In what ways do you sabotage your own well-being and success?
- I would say I sabotage my own well-being and success by being too introverted. I constantly stay at my house instead of going out and doing productive things. This means that I miss a lot of opportunities that I really shouldn't.
6. What personal "demons" have you reconciled or conquered?
- One personal "demon" I have been working on reconciling, and I feel like I am almost there, is my lack of confidence.

Questions for Reflection for the Star
1. What replenishes you?
- I would say that just relaxing and watching Netflix or youtube replenishes me.  Also, spending time with my family or my cat.
2. What brings you hope?
- I would say music brings me a lot of hope. Whenever I am in a bad mood or need some cheering up, music instantly makes me feel ten times better.
3. How are you helping make the world a better place?
- For over a year I have volunteered at an animal shelter. I feel that helping animals who can't help themselves is very important because pets bring a lot of happiness to the world.
4. What are you in the process of healing?
- I am currently in the process of healing the relationship between my sister and I. We have been in a fight for a little over a week and we have been working to resolve the issue.
5. In what activity do you receive back as much, if not more, than what you give?
- I would say I receive back more than I give when I volunteer at my local animal shelter. Going and helping the dogs in this shelter, even if its just taking them on a walk or giving them a bath, brings me so much joy. Whenever I leave I am always in the happiest mood.
6. When have you experienced a cleansing and renewal?
- I think that starting college was kind of like a cleansing and renewal in a way. This is because you kind of start off with a clean slate. Nobody knows what you were like in high school and you get to make all new friends and act however you want to.
Week 4: Questions for Reflection from Major Arcana 8-14
Death
1. Who do you need to forgive?
- I need to forgive my sister. We recently got into a big fight and I have been ignoring her for a while now.
2. What do you no longer need but are afraid to let go?
- This might be a weird answer, but I currently work at a grocery store as a book keeper. When they trained me to bookkeep, they gave me a packet with step by step instructions for the computer aspect of the job. I currently still look at this packet every time I bookkeep to make sure I am doing everything correctly and not missing everything even though I have been bookkeeping for about eight months now. I really don't think I need it anymore, but i'm always really nervous that the day I don't look at it, I will forget to enter a piece of important data or will go out through the steps out of order.
3. What relationship needs to pass quietly away?
- I don't think I have any relationships right now that need to go away. My friends are all very supportive and kind and I could never end a relationship with a family member.
4. What loss do you still find difficult to accept?
- I definitely still do not accept the loss of my father. He passed away 12 years ago when I was only six years old. Even now I still think about him every day and what my life might have been like if he was still here today.
5. What is absolutely certain and permanent in your life?
- I would say my relationships with my brother, sister and mother are all absolutely permanent in my life. They are my number one support system and can help me through anything.
6. When has the loss of something created space for transformation and growth?
- When I was in fifth grade, my mother lost her job. She eventually found a new job that paid even better than her last one and she is much happier there.

Temperance
1. What conflicts are you working to bring to harmonious resolution?
- I am currently in a fight with my sister and I plan to stop ignoring her today and try to work it out.
2. What in your life could be improved by adding new energies or resources?
- My stress levels might be reduced if I had new energies to complete all of the tasks I have to complete.
3. What opposite energies are you learning to combine and integrate?
- I am learning to integrate positivity into my life. I am usually a pretty negative person and tend to only see the down sides to everything. However, I have been trying to see the bright side in everything recently.
4. When have you played the role of mediator or peacemaker?
- In my friend group, two girls were in a really bad fight and I was one of the people who was communicating with both girls. I tried to have them talk to each other and help each one see why the other was upset. They eventually did agree to go out to lunch together along with me and one other friend. During this lunch, we talked through everything and by the end, their relationship was good as new.
5. Where is moderation most needed in your life?
- I think I need to start using moderation with the foods I eat. I have learned that it's okay to continue to eat foods that I like, I just have to eat smaller amounts of them and maybe not every day.
6. Who, given your differences, is your most unlikely friend?
- I have a girl at work who I have recently become really good friends with. I am a pretty quiet person, especially in public. She is the complete opposite and has no problems speaking her mind as loud as she can. I really admire how tough she is because I really can't handle rude customers as well as she can.

Week 3: Questions for Reflection from pages 33-68

Empress Questions for Reflection:
- How and When do you Nurture Yourself?

  • I would say I nurture myself by allowing myself to take time to do things that I enjoy doing. For example, I purposefully give myself time in my day to watch Netflix or draw on my whiteboard. This really helps me clear my mind and diminish my stress levels. I would say I let myself relax once a day for about one-two hours. If I don't have time to take a break one day, I might take a bigger break the next day. I also would say I nurture myself by always getting the proper amount of sleep no matter what.
- What is the Most Memorable Act of Caring Ever Shown to You?
  • The most memorable act of caring that I have ever been shown was when I was in the hospital with pneumonia. I was only 7 years old, but I can remember it very clearly. All of my nurses were extremely caring and made my week stay in the hospital much better. My mother was also very caring during this time in my life and wouldn't leave the hospital for more than an hour at a time and only if someone else could stay with me. All of my family members visited me and brought me gifts to cheer me up and I felt really cared for.
- Who Could Benefit from your Compassion, Tenderness, and Generosity?
  • I believe that people who are enduring long stays in a hospital could benefit from my compassion. I have wanted to start volunteering at a hospital for a very long time and I really think it would be beneficial. I would like to work with people who have to stay in hospitals for a very long time and try to brighten their days a little bit.
- What is the Most Extravagant Gift you Have Ever Given or Received?
  • The most extravagant gift I have ever received was a trip to Disney World for Christmas. I received this gift from my mother and step-father. This was an extravagant gift because I am obsessed with Disney World and it's also very expensive. The most extravagant gift i've ever given was to my brother. He had wanted a football jersey for a specific player for a long time so I gave it to him for his birthday. It was a little expensive, but the look on his face when he opened it was definitely worth it!
- What Pleasures do you Allow or Deny Yourself?
  • One pleasure that I allow myself is watching television. I watch Netflix and Hulu often. I also allow myself the pleasure of eating foods that I like and drinking coffee every day. I deny myself the pleasure of doing nothing for a whole day. I find that if I ever do end up spending a whole day just laying around watching TV, I end up feeling really tired and bad at the end of that day.
- What do you Find Beautiful?
  • I find really big mountains to be extremely beautiful. As well as really cute towns with little shops. I also think that Giant architectural marvels are beautiful. This includes the Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal. I also think that most churches are really beautiful on the inside with all of their stained glass and intricate artwork. I think flowers are beautiful and most of nature in general.
Emperor Questions for Reflection
- What Needs to Get Organized in Your Life?
  • Right now I need to organize my time a little bit better. I find myself spending too much time on some tasks and completely disregarding others.
- When or With Whom Would it be Useful to be More Assertive?
  • I think it would be useful for me to be more assertive with my sister. She often says things to me that I don't agree with, but I try to avoid confrontation and ignore or go along with it. I should be able to speak my mind to her and tell her how I feel.
- When or With Whom are you too Controlling?
  • I might be too controlling with my little brother. This is only when I feel like he is acting up and nobody is telling him what he is doing wrong.
- Who in Your Life Most Exemplifies Emperor Qualities?
  • I would say my mother exemplifies the emperors qualities the most. She is extremely organized, rational, responsible and assertive.
- How Easy is it for you to Stand up for Yourself?
  • It is not easy for me to stand up for myself at all. I really do not like confrontation and I would never want to start any.
- How Easily are you Able to Act on Your Decisions Without the Need for Approval?
  • Not easily at all. I really like to get other people's feedback before I make any important decisions. It is important for me to hear other people's opinions on stuff to make sure I don't make any major mistakes.
