Week 2: Description of My Deck and Exploration of a Card

1) The deck I chose to purchase for this class is called Steampunk Tarot. It contains mostly all of the same imagery and themes as most decks, but the artwork is much different. The pictures on these cards are the reason why I chose to obtain it. They are very realistic drawing's of humans, but also incorporate the steampunk fashion trend which mixes parts of steam engines and victorian era fashion. The cards are all very detailed and honestly just so beautiful. The second I saw this deck of cards I knew it was the one I wanted.
2) The card that I have chosen to write about from the major arcana is the Death card. The artwork on this card depicts a woman in the foreground who is wearing a white dress and has huge black wings. This woman is also holding a scythe and riding a brown horse. She has long dark hair and is looking to the back of her shoulder. In the background, we see a graveyard and a man standing at one of the graves holding a red rose and his top hat. He is presumably mourning the person buried in the grave. Maybe I am wrong, but the woman's face and the fact that she is looking back towards the man sort of makes it look like she is sort of sorry for the fact that the man's family member or friend had to die. She sort of looks distraught or like she is questioning herself. The fact that she is carrying the scythe and has black wings probably means that she is the grim reaper or someone who takes lives. Overall, I really like this card and feel like it might symbolize a huge change in someone's life that they have yet to overcome and maybe need to start looking forward instead of dwelling on the past.
